Kids Under Ten Shouldn’t Have Cell Phones
By Rylie M
I would like to convince parents not to give kids a cell phone when they are younger than ten. I have some information of what kids do most. The percentages of how many kids have cell phones, also about how it can affect your kid if they don’t have one and everyone does. Kids six to ten year olds having cell phones has shot up 68% in the last five years. I really want kids under ten not to have a cell phone. I think it is absurd.
To begin I will tell you about what kids do most. 88% of kids call their parents, 68% of kids call their friends. That is what kids do most from ages six to ten. The second most percentages of what kids do on their phones are… 56% of kids call for emergency purposes, 54% are texting, and 49% are playing games on their phones. I really think that this is bad for kids. Next the third most things kids do on their phones are… 48% take pictures, 34% listen to music, 27% are picture messaging, and 16% are downloading ring tones. In my opinion I think this is really bad for kids. This information was taken in 2009.
Now I will tell you about the percentages of ages that kids have cell phones. Six to seven year olds in 2005 5% had cell phones; in 2009 7% had cell phones. I really think six and seven year olds should not have cell phones. Because if parents are saying its for baseball practice or some type of sport the coach should have a phone that the kids can use. For eight to nine year olds in 2005 12% of them had phones; in 2009 37% of them had phones. Now I think it is ok if a ten to eleven year old had a phone just not younger. They would only need one if they went to the store alone and that still shouldn’t happen.
Most importantly why kids shouldn't have cell phones is because it can be a heath hazard. Studies have shone the cell phone radiation is really harmful to users. Also in the Swedish study from April 2004 showing a correlation between mobile phones use causes auditory nerve tumors. But most importantly scientists say parents shouldn't give their kids a cell phone if they are nine or younger.

I get disillusioned when I see a six or seven year old having cell phones. I hope I have persuaded you to make the right decision for America and not let your kids have a phone if they are under the age of ten.
